Why a Virtual Weight Loss Program Works

By Michelle Tollefson, MD, FACOG

At Diana Health, we hear you. You may want to make your health a priority, but after school drop-off, work, caregiving, dinner, homework, and everything else on your list, finding time for an appointment can feel impossible. For many women, knowing their health matters isn’t the problem. Finding care that fits real life is.

A virtual weight loss program can help. It won’t make change effortless, and it won’t be right for every woman or every visit. But it can make it easier to get started, ask questions, and return for follow-up. The relationship is still the priority. The visit just happens online.

Virtual care fits into real life

At Diana Health, we don’t believe convenience should be a luxury. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services explains that telehealth can save travel time, reduce time away from work, ease childcare logistics, and make it possible to see a provider who may be farther away. Those practical differences can make it easier to begin care and keep coming back.

Our Whole Health Weight Management Program is designed with you at the center. It’s virtual, comprehensive, and personalized.

A virtual visit may reduce:

·         A long drive to and from an appointment

·         Time in the waiting room

·         Several hours away from work

·         Some childcare or caregiving planning

Busy moms

Busy moms spend so much time managing everyone else’s appointments that their own care often lands at the bottom of the list. A quiet, private window is best, but we understand that a child may wander in looking for a snack. Real life happens. You don’t need to apologize.

Working women

For hourly employees, shift workers, small-business owners, and women with limited leave, even a short appointment can take half a day. A virtual visit may mean less time away from work. Please join from a private place where you can focus, and never while driving.

Rural patients

Living in a rural community can be wonderful, and specialized care may still be a long drive away. Virtual visits can bring women’s health and nutrition support closer to you. Internet service, privacy, labs, and occasional in-person care still matter, so your plan should reflect what’s available to you.

Regular follow-up keeps you supported

Feeling supported and having a personalized plan is a crucial part of progress. Weight management is rarely a one-time conversation. Your body, schedule, and needs change. Regular check-ins let you and your care team talk about what’s going well, what’s getting in the way, and what needs to change. That’s the importance of having a relationship with your provider.

Accountability shouldn’t feel like pressure or judgment. It should feel like having someone who knows your goals and helps when life gets complicated.

A 2023 review in Current Obesity Reports brought together 26 systematic reviews. Structured online weight-management programs could be comparable with face-to-face care, and programs with human contact tended to do better than fully automated options. Virtual care should still feel like care, not a transaction.

Your care plan should fit you

At Diana Health, we don’t believe in cookie-cutter care plans. With our Whole Health Weight Management Program, your first visit starts with us getting to know you: your health history, goals, life stage, past experiences, preferences, and barriers. We may also talk about nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, mental health, medications, hormones, menopause, work, and caregiving. These parts of your life are connected, and often a whole-health approach is what makes all the difference.

Personalized support may include:

·         A medical evaluation and shared decisions about treatment

·         Nutrition counseling with our registered dietitian

·         Support for healthy habits and behavior change

·         Mental health support when it would be helpful

·         Coordination with the rest of your Diana Health care

Medication may help some women, but it’s only one possible tool. Our other blog posts, Weight Loss Is More Than Willpower explains why biology matters, while More than Medication: How to Thrive on GLP-1s explains why nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and muscle health still matter.

Progress isn’t measured only by a number on the scale. It may show up as more energy, better sleep, greater strength, easier movement, or routines that feel sustainable.

You decide what matters most. We will build your personalized plan around those goals and support you along the way.

Privacy can make it easier to begin

Talking about weight, body image, stress eating, or mental health can feel vulnerable. Some women are more comfortable starting that conversation at home, without sitting in a public waiting room first.

Be sure you choose a quiet room when possible, use headphones, and give yourself time to speak honestly. If home isn’t private or you would feel more comfortable face-to-face, let us know so we can help you understand your options.

Virtual care stays connected to Diana Health

With our Whole Health Weight Management Program, all visits are currently virtual and held with our experienced virtual providers: Certified Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, or Registered Dietitian.

But your care isn’t separate from the rest of Diana Health. If you need an in-person evaluation, you have a local clinic to stop in get connected with. That’s the Diana Difference–comprehensive, accessible care.

Depending on your needs, your care may also connect with gynecology, menopause care, nutrition, mental health, and other women’s health services. We don’t want to leave you with a prescription or a stand-alone app. Our providers being able to easily talk about your needs, goals, and changes is a huge differentiator compared to other programs.

You deserve care that fits your life and still feels personal. You shouldn’t have to choose between taking care of yourself and taking care of everyone else. Learn more about Diana Health’s Whole Health Weight Management Program or book a virtual visit. We’re here when you’re ready.
