Susan Shelton, PhD, CNM

Certified Nurse Midwife, Regional Director

Susan Shelton, PhD, CNM believes that midwives have an honor to care for women in transitional times of life. She was drawn to Diana Health because of the model of care we deliver to our patients that empowers them to take ownership of their health–a model of care that aligns with her own mission.

She received her undergraduate degree in nursing (BSN) from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing (Mercer University) and a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN), midwifery tract, from Emory University. After years in clinical practice and nursing education, she completed her PhD in Nursing at Georgia State University with her research focus on maternal mental health. Dr. Shelton’s career in women’s health has stretched from labor and delivery nursing, clinical midwifery, teaching, research, and administration in higher education, and back to full-scope midwifery. Central to each role, she has maintained a focus on high-quality, safe care for women and childbearing families.

Susan is married to her college sweetheart, and they share three amazing children. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, and wrangling her dogs.
