Laura Matthews
CNM

Certified Nurse Midwife
Cookeville

Specialties: Prenatal care; labor support; contraceptive management; minor office procedures

Laura, CNM, began her career as a teacher, working from Head Start through university levels. She then transitioned to nursing, gaining experience in high-risk antepartum, emergency room, hospice, critical care, and IV therapy settings. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bates College, ME; a diploma RN from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing and a master’s in nursing from Case Western Reserve University, both in Ohio. Additionally, Laura holds a master’s in biotechnology from West Virginia State University, and a post master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Frontier University.

Before joining Diana Health, she worked in several high-risk tertiary care centers and enjoyed her experience in free-standing birth centers offering an option for hospital birth. As a midwife, Laura has experience in Federally Qualified Health Centers in Ohio, Texas, West Virginia, and Connecticut. Laura chose the Cookeville Diana Health location for its patient-centered philosophy and care priorities. She is committed to evidence-based care and shared decision making, believing that her role is to help women recognize their own wisdom and inner strengths.

In her free time, Laura stays busy. She has hosted many exchange students, and is the “failed medical foster mom” of two cats and a Boykin spaniel—a phrase she uses humorously to describe her love for all strays. Laura loves cooking for others, campfires, hiking, gardening, music, and reading, and being an aunt to her many nephews.
